Tattoo aftercare: what are the good behaviours to adopt?

Shoulder Tattoo In Progress

After getting a tattoo at Outliers Ink you will be provided with detailed aftercare instructions for looking after your new tattoo.

Whilst we don’t provide general aftercare advice to the public, we are aware that unfortunately some tattoo studios or artists don’t care to let their clients know how to safely heal their tattoos and the risks associated with tattoo infections can be serious infections.

So if you find yourself in this situation, we have compiled some basic do’s and don’ts.

  • Do wash your tattoo twice daily and moisturise it. At Outliers Ink we have our very own aftercare tattoo butter available in store and on our shop website.
  • Swelling can happen around the tattoo for the first few days, this is normal.
  • The skin will start to flake and possibly scab, this is part of the skin healing process. Do not pick or pull at the skin, it will ruin your new tattoo.
  • Avoid submerging your tattoo in water and having your tattoo in direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks.
  • If your tattoo becomes hot, looks red, is painful or develops a rash contact your GP.

And when booking your next tattoo please head to a reputable studio that cares about your tattoo, health and well-being. If you have any question, your first consultation is on us, get in touch.
