When getting a new tattoo you want to feel warm and comfortable. Your body temperature may fluctuate and you don’t want to be worrying about how exposed you are during what should be a great experience.
So here’s a few tips from our tattoo artist on what to wear for different tattoo placements.
What to wear for a back tattoo
Bring a hoodie to your appointment. You can wear it back to front, keeping your arms and front covered and your back exposed.
What to wear for a sternum tattoo
Buttoned shirts and blouses are a great way to keep you covered while keeping the sternum area free. Wear it unbuttoned and your tattoo artist can tape each side to each breast so your sternum area is clear.
What to wear for a chest, upper back or shoulder tattoo
If you’re not feeling the topless look, opt for a vest top with straps that can be pulled down and out of the way.
What to wear for a leg tattoo
For anything below the knee, shorts or loose fitting trousers that can be rolled up are the best option.
For anything above the knee wear shorts and if it’s a sunny day, wear loose trousers or a skirt to and from your appointment to stop your fresh tattoo being exposed to the sun.
What to wear for a hip tattoo
This one’s a little more tricky. Choose underwear that sits above or below where you want the tattoo. If the tattoo will cross your underwear line, wear underwear that you don’t mind us cutting (maybe bring a spare pair to wear home!) or bikini bottoms that tie up are a great option. Make sure you have loose fitting shorts, trousers or a skirt to wear after your appointment.
What to wear for a rib tattoo
If you don’t want to be topless, wear a loose top that can be rolled up and if your tattoo is under your bra line don’t wear one as you definitely won’t want to put it on over your fresh tattoo.
What to wear for a foot tattoo
Flip flops or open shoes that won’t touch the tattooed area are your best option for your appointment day and the next few days after your tattoo.
Not only is it important to choose the right clothes for your appointment, but it’s also important to prepare yourself. Have you checked our blog on how to prepare for your tattoo appointment?
